About Jasper J. Chen, MD
Dr. Chen was born and raised in Seattle, Washington, where he also went to medical school at the University of Washington School of Medicine (WWAMI). He studied linguistics & philosophy and brain & cognitive sciences while an undergraduate at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). He then completed graduate degrees in business administration, health policy, planning, finance and public policy in England (Oxford and London Universities) on a British Government Scholarship.
He underwent residency and fellowship training in psychiatry & leadership preventive medicine, respectively, at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth College, Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center and concurrently earned a Master of Public Health degree at The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy & Clinical Practice.
His professional interests include the application of quality improvement methodologies to psychiatry, a nascent field. He is especially interested in the development and empirical validation of clinical care pathways for the treatment of psychiatric disorders.
He concentrates his clinical and research efforts on sub-populations of patients who are particularly vulnerable, including unrepresented patients requiring guardianship, elderly individuals and patients who have “borderland” disorders including those individuals with non-epileptic seizures and other conversion disorders. He also focuses on the integration of psychiatric care into collaborative care models and women’s & maternal wellness and mental health.
