About Mohammad El-rifai, MD
Dr. Mohammad El-rifai knows firsthand the challenges of having diabetes. “I’ve lived with type 1 diabetes for 20 years,” he says. “I understand what it’s like to manage this disease while also leading a full life.”
Being a diabetic is part of why Dr. El-rifai decided to become an endocrinologist and internal medicine specialist. Endocrinology is the field of medicine that specializes in helping people manage hormone imbalances. That includes treating people with diabetes.
Being a diabetic allows Dr. El-rifai to offer a more personalized approach to practicing medicine. “I understand what many of my patients are going through. My goal is to ease their concerns and help them enjoy a healthy and happy life,” he says.
Another reason Dr. El-rifai went into medicine is because he likes the process of discovery that is involved in making a diagnosis. “It can be a puzzle, one that involves brainstorming and talking to the patient and testing to find the right solution and treatment,” he says.
Dr. El-rifai came to Wyoming as part of his focus on helping: “There aren’t many doctors practicing endocrinology in the state. So being here means I have the opportunity to help a great many people. It also means they can stay in or near their hometown to see their doctor and receive treatment. I consider it a privilege to be able do this.”
